Triumph Spitfire - My car seems to be starved of fuel

When I leave my spit1500 for any length of time it takes about 20seconds to fire after I turn the key.It always fires but never right away.My suspicion is that the fuel pump is allowing the petrol to drain back into the tank.Any thoughts?
