MG TD TF 1500 - Rear deck panels
I have a 1951 mg td. I am replacing the three wooden rear deck panels above the rear end. I am afraid I am unable to identify the type and size of the British bolts that screw into the captive nuts which hold down the panels. The old ones need to be replaced and I thought I would order new ones from Moss or other supplier. Thanks, Milton

Hi Milton, You need 1/4"BSF countersunk setscrews, around 1 1/4" long. Not so easy to find in the UK now - 6mm screws are a loose fit in a non - stressed area and could be used as a temporary expedient ! Cheers, John.

They are the same as the long floorboard screws.

Milton You may want to replace them with stainless steel, both the bolts and the capture nuts. You can purchase them at Boats/US in Alexandria, Virginia off Pickett street. If you tell the assistant manager there you are restoring an MG he will sell you those at member price. He owns a MG. This is a good source for stainless steel capture nuts in about four different styles. There good to use on the seats tracks also. You should join and consult a local MG club. The MGCCWDCC is one of the best and their members will assist you in your restoration project, many of them have been where you are now? Hope this helps John

I had thought of going to Boat/US for hardware but I also thought that it might be more original to use BSF bolts and nuts. The BSF bolts and nuts that I pulled out of the car were badly rusted and I can appreciate the use of stainless steel nuts and bolts. Getting the capture nuts out of there little cages might not be easy. Is there any secret? John: I may be the oldest member of Boat/US (since 1973). I am a member of the MG Car Club of DC as well. J.C. Mitchell: Since I started this thread, I have discovered that Moss does sell these 1/4" BSF bolts and nuts, it says. They have always sold them in their hardware kit for floorboards but you can buy them separately if you ask. Thanks for all your responses. Milton
