MG TD TF 1500 - pre-EXU headlamp stoneguards

Hello again, all:

When my TD got pranged back when Sir Winston was still prime minister, it not only got the TC grill, it got a set of 8" pre-EXU headlamps [or do they get called 9 inch?]

I hunted all over in order to find a set of Lucas Tripod lamps to fit the shells, and I think I got the last set of new 8" trim rings in existence.

However, it occurs to me that in order to protect these things [price for the lamps is way up in the 'gulp' range,] I need a set of stoneguards for them. I know that Abingdon Spares had a set a year ago, and I didn't jump on them when I should have, and I expect they may be easier to procure on the right-hand side of the Atlantic.

Do any of you Brits [or anyone else, for that matter,] know where I can find a pair of big stoneguards for these new lamps and trim rings?

Any and all leads followed up.

Hi Dave, I have the same headlights on my TD. There is available, a soft clear plastic with an adhesive backing that can be cut to fit over the lens. It is 3/32" thick and produced by 3M. I got mine at an auto supply but have not applied it to the lights yet. I would like to send you a picture but have not figured out how to do it. I assume your lenses are flat like mine.

The Yellowhead Petrocan truck stop on 179 (?) Street had some large wire basket light guards in stock a year or two ago but they were gone when I last checked . . . I'll look again when I go by on Wednesday. You could try off-road supply places.

FWIW, I purchased high impact plactic (very cheap) cut appropriate circles, drilled hole in centre for a suction cup mount. As my H/Lights have curvature I placed plastic in mothers oven over a saucepan lid of correct curvature and watched plastic take on form. Removed from oven cooled placed clear suction cup in middle hole and placed on glass H/Light.
Easy to take off for cleaning, are not readily noticeable, and cheap.
