MG TD TF 1500 - Goodbye
I recently got on this link and have enjoyed it as much as my monthly Healey magazines and MG mags and club reports and being related to all of its members and their information and my life of cars for nearly 50 years, but have now become disenchanted with a lot of the the free talk, that is, just talk. I recently had a party that wanted a TD body tub, I have one, and spent a day and 1/2 pulling out all existing parts, looking at condition, catologed what I had and what I would need, added in my labor cost, and sent back an estimate, explained in detail what I had and what new would cost. It appears I'm not a good business man, owning a corporation for 28 years. I'm waiting for my next social securiy check.

not sure what you are telling us...that you had one bad experience??? best of luck in your new adventures. regards, tom

I'm not sure what you are telling us either. While I'm not licensed to practice in Conn. it seems to me you may have problems unrelated too this site. Why not shut down your computer, have a glass of Merlot and rejoin us here in a couple of days. We enjoy having you. Dick

Some additional off-site contacts stimulates me to make some general observations. I have found MG Owners to be a remarkable grouop of people. They love their vehicles, they admires the vehicles of other owners and they are generous to a fault in assisting, helping, encouraging and providing for all individuals in the group. That this wonderful network stretches across the globe is even more remarkable. In any group there can appear an incividual who doesn't fit. All one can do is try to get that thought pattern straightened out. Failing that, one moves on. Sorry to get carried away. Dick Thomas

Yo Robert Finucane, Newtown, CT, USA With all due respect, here is some more unenchanting "free" talk... Just out of curiousity, what ever could you find offensive here? What was found lacking? This message board is, imo, the superlative place in which to learn accurate 21st century mg td-TF information, and is, in addition, an equal opportunity venue, open to all enthusiasts to participate in engrossing MG discussions. 1970s MG TD restorations, and I did two, were, in retrospect, exercises in flying blind, as compared to the technical information now available upon this website. I lack your 26 years' CEO background, nor any business expertise whatsoever, but, nonetheless, it would seem to me that you and some potential buyer merely disagreed upon your price, nothing more. Cut your price, or find another buyer, or live with your inventory... but don't blame a message board comprised of many real good guys, MG enthusiasts all, for some dollar deal gone bad. Cheers, Cliff

"... catalogued what I had and what I would need, added in my labor cost, and sent back an estimate, explained in detail what I had and what new would cost." Then what? I don't understand. Gord Clark Rockburn, Qué.
Gordon A. Clark
Gord- My question was with regards to..."added in my labor cost" No wonder he never responded to my inquiry to his 'for sale ad' or picked up the phone, (6-7 miles away). Paul
Paul Gaynor
Would one of the two parties mind giving us the whole story so we can understand what's going on? LaVerne
LaVerne
LaVerne- While I suspect who the buyer was for the tub, etc. which started this, it was not me. Robert has/had a long-standing advert on the classified side of this site, for TD spares. Given his proximity, I once responded with a general 'what do you want for what do you have?' inquiry, no answer, I moved on. As to the present, I found it strange that he would include in his complaint about the BBS and apparently the third party he sought to sell to, (apparently as some sort of justification for his rejected price), the inclusion of a reference to his labor costs. If it was a freight/crating charge that is one thing, (though I suspect someone in PA (?) might come and get it themselves, I would), however if it was His labor, that is a business, not a hobby. This site is about hobby, enthusiasts and the very welcome input from the professionals and their insights. All MG/LBC 'talk' is encouraged. Enough from here, it is 55F and I am going to visit the cars. Safety Fast Paul

Sorry to be so nosey Paul. I was just trying figure out what was going on and perhaps if it was me who offended someone. I sometimes spout off what I'm thinking, make that usually what I'm thinking without much tact and in the process ruffle some feathers. More often than not I don't care if I'm politicaly correct and my wife often gets PO'd because I won't just "go with the flow" or just let things be when I know it's just not right. Ocasionally I realize that I've gone overboard and try to make amends. Apparently I'm inocent here so kay ser ra ser ra. LaVerne

I wouldn't worry yourselves too much trying to respond to Robert's outburst in a logical way as it appears to be the fallout of a psychiatric incident. However it worries me that when individuals who are troubled start saying goodbyes, they may have suicidal intent. If anyone lives near this chap it may be worthwhile popping in. Regards, Richard.

Just wondering, should't this post be on "Flame Wars" or Horizons? Bob
Bob
No Bob. Most of the comments reflect our confusion AND concerns, because the initial comment was so far afield from our normal discourse. You will note the absence here, of vulgarity, obscenity and generally boorish comments found at those sites. Paul
Paul Gaynor
Led Downey Like your attitude, one of the things that get under my skin is when somebody calls our XPAG/XPEG engines motors. The motor is what starts it. Ohh well, never mind!! Cheers, Bob
R. K. (Bob) Jeffers
Actually, Bob, a "motor" is something that moves things. Engines ARE motors, starters are motors, solenoids can be motors, etc. Of course I suppose that when the engine is no longer functional, it would no longer qualify as a motor... David "I can be as pedantic as you can ;-)" Lieb

I have continued to follow this thread in the hopes Brother Finucane would return with further rants. I guess he really meant "goodbye"! So I will now go on to other things probably not related to motors and engines. Dick Thomas TD13583

To all, I have to appollogize and am sorry I brought up my anger and poor wording to this thread, just bad venting and a mix of cabin fever that accumulated late at night after a bad day. I do not blame any of you great chaps that offer so much that I want to hear, and I will continue to listen to you all with great enthusiasm and so look forward to spring. I hope not to confuse any more of you, I'm just an old MG guy. Happy Motoring!
Bob Finucane
Hey Bob, Most of us are already "old guys". Its only the degree of confusion that separates us! Gord Clark Rockburn, Qué.

"Just wondering, should't this post be on "Flame Wars" or Horizons? Bob " Horizon should never be compared with Flame Wars. Horizon is for like minded people to get together. Flame Wars is for people of differing views to insult each other. The Horizonites are a decent bunch of people and you'd probably get on well with them Bob. Heck, even David Lieb is welcome there! :-)

Hey Bob, Good going!! Just the message I hoped you would send. Continue to use and enjoy this group. Dick Thomas TD13583

NOW I get it... Thank you Sid
Sid Orr
Why, thank you, Wiz, I think...
David Lieb
Bob, Who among us hasn't been there. Late at night; something really pisses you off, then something else does it again! You vent, and late at night it's so easy to push that "send" button. I have an agreement with myself to NEVER push the button until morning, but sometimes I've done it anyway, only to wake up feeling awful. It takes a lot of guts to revisit this thread, read all that has been posted, then come forth and offer an apology. I'm really impressed with your courage and candor. You're a bigger man than most. ' Hope you continue to read and post here for many years to come. Cheers, Allen

>Horizon should never be compared with Flame Wars. Horizon is for like minded people to get together. Agreed >Flame Wars is for people of differing views to insult each other. There are rare occasions when we have civil dicussions there... but sooner or later (usually sooner) it does descend into mud-slinging. Certainly no-one there has the balls to apologize or retract statements like the original poster has done here. I second Allen: kudos to Mr Finucane.

Hey Bob, Good to have you back !! Hope to see you in person with your car at "British By The Sea" over in Waterford!! SPW
Steve Wincze
Steve, Have been to Waterford (Harkness) for many years, ususally in my BRG Healey or QEW Bugeye, but this year plan to make it in the TD. I have met you and Annie several times and its a great event on the shore for all marques to visit and enjoy, no matter what the seasonal weather drops on us. In the last few years, its been like a box of choclates, but well worth the run! Bob TD#1720

Steve- What's the date, I am setting my schedule for the year, golf, racing, static and family? Never been. Paul
Paul Gaynor
Bob, It takes a gentleman to apologise, particulary in the manner you did. As indeed are all the tactful contributors to this thread. Gentlemen, I am glad to be numbered amongst you. Has.

Paul, British By The sea is always on the first Sunday in June,,, This year it is June 1st,,, which is conflicting with the G.O.F. in Hampton Beach... Due to health reasons, I am not involved with BBTS any more, but I understand they are celebrating the Bug Eye this year, SPW
Steve Wincze
Steve- Thanks. No bugs here, but if in town, I may visit BBTS. Paul
