Ouch. A spare parts car for my 67 B for just over $200, I thought that those would go higher than that.

Dallas, Although the TD which sold may seem a little high for some(most of the rest of the items in this auction were very cheap)the car 'looked like' it was relatively unmolested ! Oh what a rare joy !! Were you tempted to go another TD round ? Enjoyed you supplying the info.on the Auction. Cheers Rob.Grantham TF3719("Aramis"),TF9177("Athos").

Hi Rob- there was a reason for the low prices. Here are the comments that an attendee posted on another forum. "I was there and wondered why people were bidding so high on them. They were described as barn find condition, but all but perhaps one were in junkyard condition. Total rust buckets. Most of the other cars were in similar condition, except for the Mini Moke (almost running cond.)and the mg td (barn find cond.) The star of the auction was the '39 Ford woody wagon which could probably be called barn find cond., though a bunch of termites lived in the barn. The wood would need to be totally replaced. The bidding for that car was between two phone bidders who maybe had never seen the car (that or they were nuts). I suspect when phone or internet bidders arrived to pick up their prizes, they were a bit peeved. Nevertheless, it was an interesting auction to attend and there were hundreds of lots of parts. Unfortunately the parts were all mixed up. If you bought a one of the lots you usually got British, European, and American stuff with it." Dallas

Greetings - I made the trek to Hatfield to preview the cars in case there was anything interesting. "Junkyard" is actually a fairly complimentary description! From the photos, I'd hoped to find a Bugeye in salvageable condition to replace the one I parted with some 20 years ago. Lot 9 was tempting. It sold for $1,200, and had surface rust, but very limited penetration -- floor, rockers and wheel arches appeared solid and intact. Lot 19, which went for $2,400, had much more serious rot/cancer. Go figure. The TD was only relatively unmolested, with many changes apparent in the engine bay (electrics and fuel)—certainly a doable restoration, but a major job. By my estimation, it would have been a decent buy at 1/3 its final selling price. Everything needed to be redone. All in all, it was a fun trip, but also disheartening to find so many potential lovelies in such horrid circumstances. Scott
