MG MGB Technical - MG Midget Folding Hood Frame Won't Fit

Hi folks, my dad and I have a 1978 MG midget. We bought it about a year ago with a hard top and hood frame. The old vinyl hood needed replacing and we've bought a new one.

We've refitted the frame, but the header rail doesn't quite reach the top of the windscreen (it's about an inch short) and takes some forcing to fit properly over the top of the windscreen.

Shouldn't it drop right onto the top of the windscreen without having to be forced? We've tried oiling the joints, etc.

Any other suggestions would be very welcome and much appreciated.
