MG MGA - Gearbox oil pump

Hi all
I am in the process of rebuilding my 1600 gearbox. My question is : should the hole in the oil pump (distance piece)be aligned with the hole in the 3rd motion shaft before the rear housing is fitted? My guess is that it should. Does anyone know?

Rotational orientation does not matter. The "spacer" is hollow inside so the oil can go from shell hole to shaft hole even when they are misaligned.
