MG Midget and Sprite Technical - 1500 Steering rack

The MOT tester passed my 76 1500 midget but commented on the free play and knock from the steering. Easy thought I, re-shim the rack and hey-presto no slack no knock.

Had a look to-day but the rack is different from those shown in the Moss catalogue and Haynes manual. Instead of a hex nut with provision for a grease nipple, I have a flat with two indentations for the likes of circlip pliers.

Does anyone know if this type of rack is shimmable? (is that real a word?)
