MG Midget and Sprite Technical - 1275 rear brake cylinder gaiter
I have noticed that recent replacement 1275 rear brake slave cylinders may have larger dia outer rubber gaiters - On both my cars the back of the hub flange has broken through the rubber and on one side has totally demolished the gaiter - Has anyone else had this problem and is it possible to buy a slimmer gaiter separately ?

John, I had this problem when my slave cylinder was not mounted rigidly enough to the back plate. As soon as I tapped the pin hole and used a screw to mount it, the problem went away. David "circlips don't like me" Lieb

It possibly sounds to me as though the brake cylnder is not remaining square insde the drum.

Thank you David & Robert - I agree that the slave is probably not square as only one rubber is being attacked - I have already replaced the circlip with a tapped hole - Having considered what may have moved the cylinder I have been advised that the fit of my shoes may be incorrect - During the rebuild I have followed the drawing in the Graham Bristow book "Restoring Sprites & midgets" page 52 - Could someone confirm that the illustration is wrong as I now think that the flat "lead" on the shoe should be first in the rotation of the wheel ?
