Austin-Healey Sprite - MISSING VIN PLATE

I just purchased a bugeye project car.

The VIN plate was missing and a friend told me the number is written on the car in two places. I checked on the rear deck and I can see in faint yellow crayon "18804."
Does that make my VIN # AN5L-18804?
I was hoping to verify by comparing the number written on the back of the dash, but unfortunately someone cut a hole for a radio some years ago and most of the number is missing.

I believe that this is the body number (though I could be wrong).
The body number was usually within a couple of dozen numbers of the Vin number.
This would make your car's build date around May 1959.

The number in crayon will be the VIN number.
